Latex Allergy

What Is A Latex Allergy?

A latex allergy occurs when the body reacts to certain proteins found in the natural rubber, latex. The most common result of a latex allergy is contact dermatitis, though some patients with latex allergies present with a runny nose or excessive sneezing. In some rare cases, a latex allergy can lead to anaphylaxis, so it is important to speak to your doctor if you believe you may have a latex allergy. Many patients with a latex allergy also react to certain foods.

Latex allergies are usually easy to control, except for someone working in a health care field. However, it is still important to talk to an allergist to learn of any new triggers for latex allergies that may be present in your environment. Latex is a naturally occurring substance, so a consultation with our expert allergy specialist, Dr. Atul Shah, can help you identify the less obvious triggers for your latex allergy.
